Player Ratings: Alcoyano 1-3 Real Madrid – 2021/22

Real Madrid progress to the Copa del Rey Round of 16 after scoring twice in the final 15 minutes away to Spanish third-tier football club, Alcoyano.

Eder Militao gave Ancelotti’s men the lead just five minutes before half-time but the hosts pulled level in the 66th minute. Marco Asensio restored Madrid’s lead in the 76th minute after his shot took a deflection and beat Alcoyano’s goalkeeper. Fellow substitute Isco Alarcón ensured the win two minutes later, forcing an own goal from Jose Juan which booked their place in the Round of 16. Our player ratings:

Starting XI:

Andriy Lunin: 7/10

Started for the first time this season. The Ukrainian was a little sloppy with his distribution but did make a few good saves. Got a touch on the ball for Dani Vega’s goal but can’t be blamed for not saving it.

Nacho: 6/10

A relatively quiet night for the Spaniard. Nacho isn’t a natural right-back which was highlighted by the fact that the majority of Madrid’s attacks came from the left flank. Very little to note about his performance.

Eder Militao: 8/10

Eder Militao loves scoring against Alcoyano, thankfully this time the team managed to secure the win. The Brazilian was unbeatable at the back and the goal was a reward for his hard work.

David Alaba: 7/10

Had a couple of sloppy moments here and there, but overall he did his job without stepping out of first gear.

Marcelo: 5/10

Tonight’s game was just another example of how far Marcelo has fallen. The captain had a few positive moments in attack but the number of times he was exposed was simply not good enough.

Fede Valverde: 6/10

Underwhelming performance from the Uruguayan. Fede had no impact on the game in the first-half but managed to improve after the break. Despite some improvement in the second period, Fede has so much more to offer which he didn’t display tonight.

Casemiro: 6/10

Despite making four tackles, four interceptions, and three clearances, Casemiro was far from solid tonight. The Brazilian was sloppy with his passing and was often caught out on the ball. Not the best showing.

Eduardo Camavinga: 7.5/10

One of the better performers tonight. Camavinga cleared the ball off his line to deny Alcoyano an early goal and was full of energy in the middle of the park. A promising performance from the young Frenchman.

Rodrygo Goes: 7/10

The best out of the three attackers that started. The Brazilian looked dangerous and lively, especially in the first-half.  Assisted Militao for the opener from a corner.

Mariano Diaz: 4/10

Despite trying, the striker was simply not good enough. Replaced by Asensio just after half-time having picked up an injury.

Eden Hazard: 6/10

Despite registering an assist for Asensio’s goal, Hazard’s performance was average at best. The Belgian looks devoid of confidence and tonight’s game highlighted that yet again.

Substitutions:

Marco Asensio: 7/10 Came on to replace the injured Mariano. The Spaniard delivered after being called upon, scoring the all important second goal that gave his side the lead.

Isco: 7/10 Came on to replace Camavinga and forced the third goal almost instantly.

Toni Kroos: 6/10 Came on to replace Eden Hazard as Ancelotti looked for more control for the final few minutes.

Jesus Vallejo: N/A Came on to replace David Alaba late on.

Dani Ceballos: N/A Came on to replace Rodrygo late on.

  1. I felt like you were very generous. Hazard, Valverde and Casemiro were nonexistent in this one, they should be lower.
