Player Ratings: Borussia Dortmund 0-2 Real Madrid – 2023/24 Champions League final

Real Madrid claimed their 15th Champions League title with a 2-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund in this season’s final at Wembley on Saturday night.

Carlo Ancelotti’s men faced significant pressure from Dortmund but managed to withstand it and went on to secure the win.

Dani Carvajal, an unexpected goalscorer, opened the scoring with a brilliant header before Vinicius capitalised on a Dortmund mistake to double Madrid’s lead and secure yet another Champions League trophy.

Player ratings:

Starting XI:

Thibaut Courtois: 8/10

Started tonight’s final ahead of Andriy Lunin who’s suffered with a flu all week. This was a classic Courtois performance. The Belgian kept a clean sheet and made a couple of crucial saves.

Dani Carvajal: 8.5/10

Scored the decisive goal and delivered a solid defensive performance when needed. Heroic.

Antonio Rüdiger: 7/10

Rüdiger struggled against Fulkrug from time to time but ultimately did enough to stop the German striker from causing any damage. Grew in confidence as time went on.

Nacho Fernandez: 7/10

Much like Rüdiger, Nacho had a challenging outing, but he defended his box superbly in the closing stages of the match.

Ferland Mendy: 7/10

Engaged in an intriguing battle with Sancho. The Frenchman was rarely dribbled past and put in an effective defensive performance.

Fede Valverde: 7/10

Fede was full of running once again and provided defensive tenacity while also performing effectively in an advanced role between the lines.

Eduardo Camavinga: 8/10

Camavinga put in an excellent shift in the middle of the park and flew into tackles while also winning most of his 1v1 duels. An impressive performance from the Frenchman.

Toni Kroos: 8/10

What an honour its been to watch Toni play for Real Madrid over the last 10 years. The German was an absolute joy to watch in his final club game. He forced an impressive save from a free-kick in the second half before assisting Carvajal’s opener. What a player.

Jude Bellingham: 7/10

Bellingham was largely absent in the first 45 minutes. The Englishman improved in the second half, only to be denied a goal by an incredible block. Provided the assist for the crucial second goal.

Rodrygo Goes: 6/10

A very disappointing performance from the Brazilian who offered nothing going forward.

Vinicius Jr: 8/10

The man for the big moments. Vinicius came alive towards the end of the match, sealing the game against Dortmund with a well taken left-footed finish.

Joselu: N/A Came on to replace Bellingham late on.

Luka Modric: N/A  Came on to replace Toni Kroos late on.

Lucas Vazquez: N/A  Came on to replace Vinicius late on.

Eder Militão: N/A Came on to replace Rodrygo late on.
