Player Ratings: Real Madrid 3-3 Atlético Madrid (5-3 AET) – Spanish Super Cup 2022/23
Real Madrid clinched their spot in the Spanish Super Cup final after a pulsating 5-3 extra-time win over Atlético Madrid in Riyadh on Wednesday night.
Real Madrid were awful defensively but made up for it with a plethora of goals. Rüdiger, Mendy, Carvajal, an own goal from Savic and a last minute goal from Brahim confirmed Los Blancos’ appearance in the Super Cup final for the third consecutive year.
Carlo Ancelotti’s men will now face the winner of Barcelona vs Osasuna in Sunday’s final.
Player ratings:
Starting XI:
Kepa Arrizabalaga: 4/10
A disastrous display from the Spaniard. Kepa scored an own goal and was anything but commanding in his box. Shocking.
Dani Carvajal: 9/10
Assisted Ferland Mendy’s goal with a brilliant ball before going on to score the equaliser that forced extra-time. Carvajal then created the chance that resulted in the winner in extra-time. A brilliant performance from the Spaniard.
Antonio Rüdiger: 7/10
Equalised with a brilliant header after being found by a Modric corner.
Nacho: 6/10
Vinicius Jr: 7/10
Substitutions:
Toni Kroos: 7.5/10 – Came on to replace Luka Modric. The German was booed with every touch on the ball but put in a very good shift since his introduction. Should have started.
Eduardo Camavinga: 6.5/10 – Came on to replace Ferland Mendy. The Frenchman played at left-back and was solid.
Brahim Diaz: 8/10 – Came on to replace Aurélien Tchouaméni. The Spaniard was very bright since coming on and scored the fifth goal in extra-time.
Joselu: 7/10 – Came on to replace Vinicius Junior for the second half of extra-time. The Spaniard forced the winner in extra-time.
Dani Ceballos: N/A – Came on to replace Rodrygo for the second half of extra-time.
Arda Güler: N/A – Came on to replace Fede Valverde for the second half of extra-time.
