Player Ratings: Valencia 4-1 Real Madrid

Real Madrid lost for the second time in LaLiga this season conceding four times at the Mestalla. Karim Benzema opened the scoring with a wonderful shot from outside the box to give Real Madrid the lead. Carlos Soler then levelled from spot just 12 minutes later. Raphael Varane then scored an own goal to give Valencia the lead at half-time. Things continued to get worse for the Merengues in the second-half conceding another two penalties which Soler took full advantage of to secure a 4-1 win for Valencia. These are our player ratings:
Starting XI:
Thibaut Courtois: 6/10
Managed to save one of Carlos Soler’s penalties before it was eventually retaken.
Lucas Vazquez: 5/10
Tough night for Lucas. Valencia constantly targeted his side throughout the game. Conceded the first penalty with a handball inside the box.
Raphael Varane: 5/10
Yet another shocking performance from the Frenchman scoring an own goal with a scuffed clearance. Looks a shadow of what he’s been over the past few seasons.
Sergio Ramos: 5/10
Gave away the third penalty with a silly handball. A night to forget for the captain.
Marcelo: 5/10
Started the game brilliantly with an assist for Benzema. Everything went downhill after that with the defender giving away a penalty for a rash challenge on Maxi Gomez.
Fede Valverde: 7/10
Tasked with covering for Casemiro, the Uruguayan put in a decent shift. Eventually ran out of steam and was replaced with Toni Kroos.
Isco: 5/10
Started the game well with some neat passing but that was it. The Spaniard’s performance got considerably worse as the game went on giving away the ball on many occasions. This performance won’t do him any favours in terms of getting more game time.
Luka Modric: 7/10
Arguably Real Madrid’s best player on the night. The Croatian was the one attempting to create chances but wasn’t helped out by his teammates.
Marco Asensio: 5/10
Yet another disappointing night for Marco with the Spaniard barely doing anything of note. Was replaced by Odegaard in the second half.
Karim Benzema: 7/10
Gave Real Madrid the lead with a fantastic strike in the first-half. Was forced off with a muscle injury in the second-half.
Vinicius Jr: 5/10
Substitutions:
Martin Odegaard: 6/10 – Odegaard’s first match since returning from injury. Came on with the game already put to bed and didn’t really have a chance to get going.
Mariano: 5/10 – Came on and to replace the injured Benzema. His first appearance of the season.
Rodrygo: 6/10 – Replaced Vinicius but couldn’t improve on his compatriots performance.
Luka Jovic: 5/10 – Didn’t have enough time to affect the game.
Toni Kroos: 6/10 – Came on as a late substitute.
