Player ratings:

Starting XI:

Kepa Arrizabalaga: 6/10

Back in the starting line-up after a month on the sidelines. The Spaniard made an excellent save but could do nothing to stop Volland’s strike before the break. Could’ve arguably done a bit better for Kral’s long range strike.

Lucas Vazquez: 6.5/10

Got into a few dangerous positions but his delivery constantly let him down.

Nacho Fernandez: 6.5/10

Didn’t cover himself in glory for Berlin’s opener with the Spaniard strangely pushing high up the pitch.

David Alaba: 5/10

At fault for Union Berlin’s opener. The Austrian was far from solid at the back.

Fran Garcia: 7/10

Assisted Joselu’s second with a decent cross. The Spaniard put in a solid shift and looked a lot more comfortable than earlier in the season.

Fede Valverde: 6.5/10

A quiet game from Valverde who looked a little tired. The Uruguayan was replaced by Toni Kroos for the second half.

Dani Ceballos: 8/10

Ceballos’ best performance since returning from injury. The Spaniard looked a lot more comfortable on the ball and kept his team ticking with some decent passing. Scored the winner with a deflected strike late on.

Luka Modric: 7/10

Missed the chance to give his side the lead in the first half with a rather poorly struck penalty. The miss aside, the Croatian was very good on the ball and played a key part in Joselu’s second goal with a brilliant pass out wide to Fran Garcia.

Jude Bellingham: 7/10

Jude Bellingham didn’t score and wasn’t quite at his best but he still managed to make an impact on the game. The Englishman assisted Ceballos’ winner with an excellent pass late on.

Rodrygo Goes: 7/10

Rodrygo was sharp in attack and constantly caused danger for Union Berlin. The Brazilian assisted Joselu’s equaliser.

Joselu: 8.5/10

Joselu was in very good form in Germany. The Spaniard hit the crossbar in the first-half before scoring a quickfire double after the break to turn the game around for his side.

Toni Kroos: 7/10 Came on to replace Fede Valverde. The German was key to Real Madrid’s comeback.

Antonio Rüdiger: 6.5/10 Came on to replace David Alaba.

Brahim Diaz: N/A Came on to replace Rodrygo late on.

Nico Paz: N/A Came on to replace Ceballos late on.
