Player Ratings: Sevilla 2-3 Real Madrid – 2021/22

Real Madrid took a huge step towards winning their 35th LaLiga title with a 3-2 victory against Sevilla on Sunday.

First-half goals from Ivan Rakitic and Erik Lamela weren’t enough for the hosts, as second-half strikes from Rodrygo, Nacho and Karim Benzema earned the visitors a hard-fought and well earned three points.

Los Blancos were 2-0 down at half-time and it looked like they’d suffer a repeat of what happened against Barcelona last month, but they turned things around with three second-half goals and are now 15 points clear, albeit having played two games more than Barcelona, and with only six games left.

Player ratings:

Starting XI:

Thibaut Courtois: 7/10

Not much the Belgian could do for either of Sevilla’s goals. The Belgian was once again let down by his teammate’s defending.

Lucas Vazquez: 7/10

A solid shift from Vazquez who was excellent when it came to individual duals. The Galician made eight ball recoveries and showed his qualities in both defence and attack.

Eder Militao: 3/10

One of Militao’s worst performances in a Real Madrid shirt. The Brazilian was uncharacteristically lax and made two big mistakes which resulted in both of Sevilla’s goals. A night to forget.

David Alaba: 7/10

Alaba was alert to danger and often used his pace to stop a number of quick counterattacks from the home team but overall, he put in a relatively quiet performance.

Dani Carvajal: 9/10

With both Mendy and Marcelo out injured, Ancelotti picked Carvajal to start at left-back. The Spaniard put in a fantastic performance, providing two assists and putting in a brilliant shift throughout.

Luka Modric: 7/10

Yet another solid display from the Croatian. Modric was classy as always but cost his team in the first-half by giving away the free kick from which Rakitic scored.

Eduardo Camavinga: 6/10

A pretty decent performance from the young Frenchman who replaced the suspended Casemiro. Camavinga did things intelligently at both ends of the field but you could say he was lucky to not have been sent off in the first-half.

Toni Kroos: 7/10

Toni was relatively poor in the first-half, which was also the case with the majority of his teammates. The German improved a great deal in the second-half which helped his team gain control of the game.

Fede Valverde: 7/10

Ever since the comeback against PSG, Valverde has been one of the first names on the teamsheet. The Uruguayan’s dynamism helped Real Madrid control the game in the second-half and was key to his team’s comeback.

Karim Benzema: 8/10

Another game, another late winner from Karim. Despite not having many chances, the Frenchman continues to show up when his team needs him the most.

Vinicius Jr: 8.5/10

Another brilliant performance from the Brazilian. Vinicius was at the centre of everything positive for Real Madrid, playing a big part in his side’s first goal and was disgracefully denied a goal of his own. Outstanding performance.

Substitutions:

Rodrygo Goes: 9/10 Came on to replace Camavinga for the second-half. The Brazilian was the difference maker tonight, scoring the equaliser minutes into the second-half before assisting Benzema for the winning goal. Superb.

Nacho: 8/10 Came on to replace Vazquez with under 10 minutes left. The defender scored the all-important equaliser with his first touch of the game.

Marco Asensio: N/A Came on to replace Modric with under 10 minutes to go.

Mariano Diaz: N/A Came on to replace Benzema late on.
