Player Ratings: Real Valladolid 0-2 Real Madrid – 2022/23

Real Madrid closed out the year with a win thanks to a Karim Benzema double.

Los Blancos put in a pretty poor display but managed to secure a 2-0 win against Real Valladolid at the Jose Zorrilla on Friday night thanks to Courtois’ heroics and Benzema’s brace.

The win sees Real Madrid overtake rivals Barcelona at the top of the league table but Xavi’s men face Espanyol on Saturday with the chance to go top.

Player ratings:

Starting XI:

Thibaut Courtois: 9/10

Another splendid display from the Belgian who singlehandedly kept his team in the game. A brilliant performance to close out a truly fantastic year.

Dani Carvajal: 5/10

Not one of Carvajal’s finest matches. The right-back was shaky in defence and offered nothing moving forward.

Antonio Rüdiger: 6/10

Used his pace to expertly recover the ball on multiple occasions. Not tested much throughout.

David Alaba: 5/10

Alaba didn’t have as much influence in the teams build-up as he usually does and looked suspect at the back at times. Not at his best.

Ferland Mendy: 6.5/10

Mendy offered nothing in attack but put in a solid shit defensively. A standard Mendy performance.

Dani Ceballos: 5/10

Started the game really well and looked sharp but faded as the game went on. The Spaniard didn’t offer Kroos much defensive help.

Toni Kroos: 7/10

Not the easiest game for Kroos who had to dig deep as the anchor in Madrid’s 4-3-3 formation. The German attempted 103 passes, completing 97 percent of them. A solid performance.

Fede Valverde: 5/10

Struggled to get going in the first-half and his passing was very poor. Improved after the break but still seems to perform a lot better on the wing than in midfield.

Marco Asensio: 5/10

Got into decent positions and tried to get involved but failed to impact the game.

Karim Benzema: 7/10

Missed a clear-cut chance in the first-half. The Frenchman did however make up for it with a late brace to seal the win.

Vinicius Jr: 6.5/10

By far Real Madrid’s most industrious attacker. The Brazilian was a constant threat down the left flank with his pace and dribbling but lacked end product.

Substitutions:

Lucas Vazquez: 5/10 Came on to replace Dani Carvajal.

Rodrygo Goes: 5/10 Came on to replace Asensio.

Eduardo Camavinga: 7.5/10 Came on to replace Dani Ceballos. The Frenchman provided a lot of pace and energy off the bench which helped Madrid get the game over the line. Provided Benzema with a brilliant assist.

Aurélien Tchouaméni: N/A Came on to replace Valverde late on.

Luka Modric: N/A Came on to replace Vinicius late on.
