Player Ratings: Real Madrid 5-1 Celtic – 2022/23

Real Madrid secured top spot in Champions League Group F by defeating Celtic 5-1 at the Santiago Bernabéu on Wednesday.
Real Madrid wasted no time in making their superiority felt, with Luka Modric and Rodrygo netting penalties in the first-half to give their side a healthy lead. Celtic were also awarded a spot-kick but Josip Juranovic saw his penalty saved by Thibaut Courtois.
Marco Asensio, Vinicius Junior and Federico Valverde all scored for Real Madrid after the break in what was a very dominant second-half performance from Ancelotti’s men. Substitute Jota got a consolation for Celtic with a brilliant free-kick late on.
The result means Real Madrid finish top of the group with 13 points, joined by RB Leipzig in the second round. Celtic are out of all European competition and Shakhtar Donetsk have gone into the Europa League.

Thibaut Courtois: 8.5/10
Brilliantly saved Juranovic’s penalty and made a number of good saves throughout the game. Unlucky not to have kept a clean sheet after Jota’s unstoppable freekick.

Ventured forward pretty regularly and was involved in Asensio’s goal early on in the second-half. Solid display.

A pretty quiet evening for the Austrian who barely got out of first gear.

Very good performance from the Brazilian who was solid defensively and was excellent in building play out from the back.
Ferland Mendy: 6.5/10
Rodrygo Goes: 8/10
Vinicius Jr: 7/10
