Player ratings:
Starting XI:
Thibaut Courtois: 8/10
Made a number of great saves, earning himself a deserved clean sheet.
Lucas Vazquez: 6.5/10
An average performance from the Galician who wasn’t tested in defence and was okay in attack.
Jesus Vallejo: 7/10
A rare start for the Spaniard. Vallejo put in a solid shift, making the most out of the opportunity.
Casemiro: 8/10
Back from injury, partnering Vallejo at the back. The Brazilian was excellent despite playing out of position and Ancelotti will undoubtedly be delighted to have him back ahead of the second leg against Manchester City.
Marcelo: 7/10
Marco Asensio: 7.5/10
Mariano Diaz: 6.5/10
Rodrygo Goes: 9/10
Substitutions:
Toni Kroos: 6/10 – Came on to replace Modric around the hour mark. The German looked tired and at times a little sloppy.
Karim Benzema: 8/10 – Came on to replace Mariano. The Frenchman scored Real Madrid’s fourth goal to take his LaLiga tally to 25 goals for the season. Goalscoring machine.
Isco: 7.5/10 – Came on to replace Casemiro. The Spaniard was brilliant on the ball and scored a peach of a goal only for it to be disallowed by VAR. Great cameo.
Mario Gila: N/A – Came on to replace Camavinga with little under 15 minutes remaining.
Vinicius: 7/10 – Came on to replace Rodrygo late on. The Brazilian assisted Benzema for Real Madrid’s fourth goal.
