Player Ratings: Real Madrid 3-1 Sevilla – 2022/23

Real Madrid continued their unbeaten start to the season with a 3-1 win against Sevilla at the Bernabéu on Saturday, opening up a six-point lead at the top of the table.

Luka Modric opened the scoring inside the opening five minutes after being found brilliantly by Vinicius.

The home side had a number of very good chances to make it 3-0 before the break but failed to capitalise on their opportunities. In the 54th minute Erik Lamela slotted home from a tight angle to equalise.

Substitute Lucas Vazquez scored the winner for Los Blancos in the 79th minute of the match after being teed up by Vinicius following a brilliant counterattack.

Fede Valverde wrapped up the result with a sensational piledriver from outside the box, scoring his seventh goal of the season and his third in the last three games.

Player ratings:

Starting XI:

Thibaut Courtois: 6/10

Back in the starting lineup after missing the last few games through injury. The Belgian was barely tested in goal and will be disappointed not to have stopped Lamela’s goal.

Dani Carvajal: 6.5/10

Did well in the first-half but wasn’t as solid after the break.

Eder Militao: 7/10

Solid performance from the Brazilian who was calm and collected at the back.

David Alaba: 7/10

Just like Militao, Alaba was solid at the back and did his job well.

Ferland Mendy: 7/10

Looked a little shaky at times and took a few risks in his own penalty box that could’ve easily gone wrong but overall a decent shift from the Frenchman.

Luka Modric: 8/10

Scored in what was his 450th appearance for the club. Another classy performance from the timeless Croatian.

Aurélien Tchouaméni: 7/10

A very good shift from the Frenchman who misplaced just 2 of the 47 passes he attempted (96% accuracy). Tchouaméni continues to show maturity beyond his age and he’s only just getting started.

Toni Kroos: 7/10

A relatively quiet performance from the German who wasn’t as influential as the past few games. Kroos’ impact on the game grew after he moved into a more central role after Tchouaméni went off.

Fede Valverde: 8/10

Three goals in his last three games, seven goals so far this season. Fede Valverde is in sensational form and that continued tonight. What a player Real Madrid have on their hands.

Rodrygo Goes: 6/10

Rodrygo had a few good moments on the ball and linked nicely with his teammates but was uncharacteristically quiet tonight. Little to no impact on the game.

Vinicius Jr: 8/10

Missed a number of good chances to score but put in a very good performance. Vinicius was at the heart of everything positive for Real Madrid and ended the game with two assists.

Substitutions:

Eduardo Camavinga: 6/10 Came on to replace Tchouaméni. The Frenchman added some much needed energy and fresh legs to the middle of the park.

Lucas Vazquez: 7/10 Came on to replace Dani Carvajal. The Spaniard made an instant impact, scoring Madrid’s second goal of the game after a brilliant counterattack.

Marco Asensio: 7.5/10 Came on to replace Luka Modric. The Spaniard was key to both of Madrid’s goals in the second-half, playing a key role in Vazquez’s goal before registering an assist for Valverde’s rocket.

Antonio Rüdiger: N/A Came on to replace Ferland Mendy late on.

Nacho: N/A Came on to replace David Alaba late on.
