Player Ratings: Real Madrid 3-1 Atlético Madrid – Copa del Rey 2022/23
Extra time goals from Karim Benzema and Vinicius Junior guide Real Madrid through to the Copa del Rey semi-finals.
Atlético Madrid took an early lead through Alvaro Morata and it looked like they’d seal the win but a brilliant solo goal from Rodrygo in the final 10 minutes took the game to extra time. Savic got sent off and Los Blancos took full advantage, with Benzema giving his side the lead in the 104th minute before Vinicius put the game to bed with the last kick of the game.
Real Madrid will now face one of Barcelona, Athletic Club or Osasuna in the semi-finals.
Thibaut Courtois: 7/10
Made a few good stops to keep the score to just 0-1 at half time. Another big performance.
A decent shift from the Spaniard who was solid throughout.
Eder Militao: 8/10
Another very good performance from the Brazilian. Despite being the youngest centre-back in the team, Eder continues to lead by example and has been one of Madrid’s best players this season.
Antonio Rüdiger: 7/10
A solid performance from the German who’s improved a great deal over the past two games. Came close to scoring a header in extra time.
Ferland Mendy: 4/10
Nowhere to be seen when Molina ghosted behind him in the leadup to the opener. Came off injured in the 43rd minute.
Luka Modric: 7/10
Looked tired during the majority of the game but started to pull the strings in extra time.
Eduardo Camavinga: 8.5/10
Started the game in midfield but was later on moved to left-back after Mendy’s injury. The Frenchman was excellent in both positions and won the foul which got Savic sent off.
Toni Kroos: 5/10
Far from his best. Toni Kroos struggled to make any sort of impact on the game and was replaced with 15 minutes to go.
Fede Valverde: 2/10
It’s very surprising how Valverde continues to start despite his very poor run of form since the World Cup. Another shocking performance from the Uruguayan who’s really struggling at the moment.
Karim Benzema: 7.5/10
Missed a number of decent goalscoring opportunities before scoring the all-important winner in extra time. Despite not being at his best, the Frenchman continues to score important goals.
Vinicius Jr: 7.5/10
Missed a number of very easy goalscoring opportunities only to score the most difficult of them all right at the death. Vini keeps going, even when things don’t go his way. The Brazilian got a standing ovation off the Bernabéu faithful.
Dani Ceballos: 8/10 – Came on to replace Mendy. The Spaniard continued his excellent form with another dominant performance. Dani is fighting for a new contract.
Rodrygo Goes: 8/10 – Came on to replace Valverde. The Brazilian scored the goal of the season so far which was crucial in turning things around for Real Madrid. A big game player. Came off with a foot injury.
Marco Asensio: 7/10 – Came on to replace Toni Kroos. The Spaniard gave the team some much needed energy up top.
Mario Martin: N/A – Came on to replace Rodrygo. A big moment for the academy graduate who made his first team debut.
Alvaro Odriozola: N/A – Came on to replace Nacho late on.
