Player Ratings: Real Madrid 2-3 Villarreal – 2022/23

Real Madrid’s disastrous LaLiga season continued on Saturday with another defeat, this time at the hands of Villarreal who have completed the double against Ancelotti’s men this season.

Los Blancos now trail leaders Barcelona by 12 points having played a game more than their rivals and that gap will increase to a mammoth 15 points if the Blaugrana beat Girona on Monday.

Player ratings:

Starting XI:

Thibaut Courtois: 8/10

Made a number of stunning saves to keep Real Madrid in the game. Nothing the Belgian could do to stop Chukwueze’s stunning winner.

Lucas Vazquez: 5/10

Started ahead of Carvajal who was rested for Wednesday’s clash with Chelsea. The Galician didn’t provide much going forward and was far from solid in defence.

Antonio Rüdiger: 6/10

Most if not all of Villarreal’s danger came from the flanks but the German didn’t cover himself in glory, especially in the buildup to Villarreal’s first goal.

David Alaba: 6/10

Caught out for Villarreal’s opener before being hauled off at the break.

Nacho: 3/10

Nightmare outing for Nacho who was absolutely torn apart by Chukwueze.

Dani Ceballos: 7/10

One of Madrid’s better performers tonight. The Spaniard put in a decent shift and registered an assist.

Aurélien Tchouaméni: 6/10

Real Madrid desperately lacked balance in the middle of the park and Tchouaméni couldn’t do enough to gain control of proceedings.

Marco Asensio: 7/10

Started off the game very brightly. The Spaniard’s darting run and shot in the first half resulted in Madrid’s opener. Dropped off in the second half.

Rodrygo Goes: 5/10

Rodrygo had the most shots out of any Real Madrid player tonight (5) but only one of them was on target. A frustrating night for the Brazilian.

Karim Benzema: 6/10

Didn’t see much of the ball throughout his time on the pitch before being brought off early on in the second half with Wednesday’s game against Chelsea in mind.

Vinícius Jr: 8/10

Real Madrid’s best player once again. The Brazilian constantly pushed forward and should’ve had more than just the one goal to his name.

Substitutions:

Eder Militao: 6/10 Came on to replace Alaba for the second half.

Fede Valverde: 6/10 Came on to replace Karim Benzema.

Luka Modric: 6/10 Came on to replace Tchouaméni.

Eduardo Camavinga: 6/10 Came on to replace Ceballos.
