Player Ratings: Real Madrid 2-1 Real Sociedad – 2023/24
Real Madrid maintained their 100% record in LaLiga thanks to second half goals from Valverde and Joselu.
Real Sociedad have been excellent this season and it was clear from their brilliant start to the game. The Basque side took an early lead through Ander Barrenetxea and could’ve easily scored another goal or two but for some top saves from Kepa.
In typical Real Madrid fashion, the Whites looked a different team after the break. A rocket from Federico Valverde and a brilliant Joselu header turned the game on its head.
The win means that Los Blancos go back to the top of the LaLiga table having won all five of their games this season.
Kepa Arrizabalaga: 7.5/10
Another start for the Chelsea loanee. Kepa made a couple of really good saves but will be disappointed that he didn’t keep out Sociedad’s opener.
Dani Carvajal: 8/10
Dani Carvajal has been outstanding this season and tonight was no different. The Spaniard put in very good shift both defensively and offensively.
Antonio Rüdiger: 7/10
Barely put a foot wrong and was solid throughout.
David Alaba: 7/10
Came close to scoring in the opening five minutes and had a solid game at the back.
Fran Garcia: 7.5/10
Started the game horribly, giving the ball away far too easily and really struggled to contain Kubo. The Spaniard looked a different player in the second half, registering two brilliant assists and playing a key role in Madrid’s comeback.
Fede Valverde: 8/10
One of Madrid’s most consistent players this season. The Uruguayan equalised for Real Madrid straight after the break with a brilliant strike from outside the box.
Aurélien Tchouaméni: 6.5/10
Tchouaméni has been brilliant this season but he failed to live up to those high standards tonight. The Frenchman wasn’t quite up to scratch.
Toni Kroos: 7.5/10
Struggled to deal with Kubo’s pace at times but the German controlled proceedings in the middle of the park, especially after the break.
Jude Bellingham: 7.5/10
Despite not scoring, Jude Bellingham put in another excellent display. Came close to scoring late on but was denied by a brilliant save from Romero.
Rodrygo Goes: 7/10
Despite not having many goalscoring opportunities, Rodrygo linked up well with Garcia down the left flank and caused Sociedad problems with his speed and movement.
Hit the post in the first half and really struggled to get going. The Spaniard improved after the break and gave his team the lead with a brilliant header.
Luka Modric: 7/10 – Came on to replace Joselu. The Croatian was excellent since coming on.
Eduardo Camavinga: 6.5/10 – Came on to replace Tchouaméni. The Frenchman added some much needed energy in the second half.
Nacho Fernandez: 6/10 – Came on to replace Fran Garcia. The Spaniard was brought on to shore up the left side.
Lucas Vazquez: N/A – Came on to replace Valverde late on.
Brahim Diaz: N/A – Came on to replace Rodrygo late on.
