Player Ratings: Real Madrid 2-1 Real Betis – 2022/23

Real Madrid continued their impressive start to the season with a 2-1 win against Real Betis at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Goals from Vinicius and Rodrygo either side of Canales’ equaliser were enough to see off the visitors. Four wins from four and alone at the top of the table.

Player ratings:

Starting XI:

Thibaut Courtois: 7/10

Could have done better to stop Canales from scoring with the ball going through his legs. Still looking for his first clean sheet this season.

Dani Carvajal: 7/10

Got caught out for the equaliser but slowly improved as the game went on. Played a crucial part in the buildup to Rodrygo’s winner.

Eder Militao: 7.5/10

Made a number of brilliant tackles and his long range passing was top notch throughout the 90 minutes.

David Alaba: 8/10

Showed yet again just how good he is at playing the ball out of the back with a brilliant assist for Vini’s opener. On top of that, he was as solid as ever in defence.

Ferland Mendy: 7/10

Solid performance from Mendy who did all the basics right. The left-back could have done more in attack but overall, a decent shift from the Frenchman.

Luka Modric: 7.5/10

Started the game slowly but his impact grew as time went on. The Croatian was fantastic on the ball and came off to yet another standing ovation.

Aurélien Tchouaméni: 9/10

Yet another brilliant performance from the French superstar. The biggest compliment one can give to Tchouaméni is the fact that Casemiro seems to have long been forgotten. Unlucky not to have scored with a wonderful header.

Eduardo Camavinga: 7/10

Showed a couple of nice touches on the ball and his energy is always a big advantage for Real Madrid. The Frenchman put in a decent performance but was outshone by his compatriot, Tchouaméni.

Rodrygo Goes: 7.5/10

The Brazilian’s first start this season. Rodrygo had a very quiet first-half but improved in the second, scoring Madrid’s winner.

Karim Benzema: 6.5/10

Far from his best. Benzema’s linkup and interplay with his teammates was good but he looks to be lacking that killer instinct that made him so good last season.

Vinicius Jr: 8/10

Third consecutive match scoring for Real Madrid. Vini opened the scoring with a sensational lobbed finish over the Betis keeper and was a lively figure down the left.

Substitutions:

Fede Valverde: 7.5/10 Came on to replace Camavinga. The Uruguayan had an instant impact, assisting Rodrygo with his first touch.

Toni Kroos: N/A Came on to replace Modric late on.

Dani Ceballos: N/A Came on to replace Rodrygo late on.

Antonio Rüdiger: N/A Came on to replace Carvajal late on.
