Player Ratings: Real Madrid 2-1 Rayo Vallecano – 2022/23

Real Madrid returned to winning ways in LaLiga on Wednesday with a 2-1 win against Rayo Vallecano thanks to goals from Karim Benzema and Rodrygo.

Los Blancos have nothing meaningful left to play for this season and that was very clear from the get-go. The win means Real Madrid have temporarily moved up to second place ahead of Atletico who face Espanyol later on today.

Player ratings:

Starting XI:

Thibaut Courtois: 7/10

A quiet game for the Belgian. Not much he could do to stop De Tomas’ goal as his view was blocked.

Dani Carvajal: 6.5/10

Missed a great chance to score after being found with a wonderful cross from Modrić. The Spaniard was a willing attacker down the right.

Nacho: 6.5/10

Nacho was decent throughout until he was beaten down the right for Rayo’s goal in the last ten minutes.

David Alaba: 6.5/10

A comfortable night for the Austrian who had very little to do.

Antonio Rüdiger: 7/10

Started the game at left-back. The German was the best out of Madrid’s back four and was always available to mop up any danger.

Luka Modric: 6.5/10

Luka Modric put in a decent shift and should’ve registered an assist after finding Carvajal with a delightful outside of the boot cross.

Toni Kroos: 8/10

Madrid’s best player on the pitch alongside Rodrygo. The German played an important role in both goals and has been one of Madrid’s most consistent players this season.

Eduardo Camavinga: 7/10

Started in midfield for the second consecutive game. The Frenchman put in a solid shift as he looks to secure a starting spot in midfield for next season.

Fede Valverde: 6.5/10

Started on the right wing for the first time in a while. The Uruguayan was relatively quiet but managed to register an assist for Benzema’s goal.

Karim Benzema: 7.5/10

Scored Madrid’s opener after rounding Rayo’s keeper. The Frenchman was limping all game but managed to play the full ninety minutes.

Rodrygo Goes 8/10

Scored Madrid’s winner with a well taken finish. The Brazilian was Los Blancos’ biggest threat in attack.

Substitutions:

Dani Ceballos: 7/10 Came on to replace Fede Valverde. The Spaniard assisted Rodrygo’s winner.

Marco Asensio: 6/10 Came on to replace Luka Modrić.

Aurélien Tchouaméni N/A Came on to replace Antonio Rüdiger late on.
