Player Ratings: Real Madrid 2-1 Cadiz – 2022/23

Real Madrid take all three points and head into the World Cup break with a win thanks to a header from Eder Militao and a wonder-strike from Toni Kroos.

Eder Militao opened the scoring with a well-taken header in the first-half following a brilliant cross from Toni Kroos. The German then doubled Real Madrid’s lead after the break with a sensational volley from outside the box.

Lucas Perez scored a late consolation goal for Cadiz but Ancelotti’s men managed to hang on and secure all three points.

The result sees Madrid close the gap to two points behind Barcelona at the summit of the LaLiga table. The team will now break for the World Cup before they return to action on the 31st of December.

Player ratings:

Starting XI:

Thibaut Courtois: 6/10

Made a double save before conceding the late goal. Should’ve held the ball instead of parrying it for the initial shot which would’ve stopped him conceding.

Lucas Vazquez: 8/10

A surprise start ahead of Carvajal. The Spaniard put in a very good shift, especially in attack. Vazquez made a number of good crosses, provided width on the right flank and came close to scoring on one or two occasions.

Eder Militao: 9/10

Second successive match on the scoresheet. Eder defended brilliantly and topped things off with a goal, scoring Madrid’s opener with an excellent header.

David Alaba: 7/10

Alaba put in a solid shift at the back. The Austrian lacked pace at times but overall a decent display.

Ferland Mendy: 7/10

Just like Alaba, Mendy did his job well without standing out. Solid.

Luka Modric: 7.5/10

Back to his usual self after the horror show against Vallecano. Modric kept things ticking in midfield alongside Toni Kroos. The Croatian will be massively disappointed not to have scored after missing an open goal.

Aurélien Tchouaméni: 7/10

Looked a lot more comfortable playing alongside Kroos and Modric. Could’ve arguably defended better for Cadiz’ goal but overall the Frenchman put in a good shift.

Toni Kroos: 10/10

A fantastic performance from Toni who was at his brilliant best. The German assisted Militao for the opener before doubling Madrid’s lead with a thunderbolt. Toni, sign that contract.

Fede Valverde: 7.5/10

Fede wasn’t as impactful as we’ve been accustomed to this season but his work rate was as good as always.

Rodrygo Goes: 7/10

A relatively quiet performance from Rodrygo. The Brazilian tried but just couldn’t create anything substantial.

Vinicius Jr: 7.5/10

As has been the case for the majority of this season, Vinicius was bullied time and time again. The Brazilian was fouled over and over but the referee was simply not interested. Provided a brilliant ball for the chance that Modric missed late on.

Substitutions:

Dani Ceballos: N/A Came on to replace Rodrygo late on.

Eduardo Camavinga: N/A Came on to replace Modric late on.

Nacho Fernandez: N/A Came on to replace Vazquez late on.
