Player Ratings: Real Madrid 2-0 Getafe

Second-half goals from Karim Benzema and Ferland Mendy hand an injury plagued Real Madrid all three points in a 2-0 win against Getafe at the Alfredo di Stefano.

Karim Benzema opened the scoring for Los Blancos with a brilliant header after an excellent cross from Vinicius. Ferland Mendy then doubled the score six minutes later following a cross from Marcelo.

Zinedine Zidane will undoubtedly be happy with his sides performance considering the vast number of injuries and Madrid’s inconsistent form of late. The win sees Los Blancos move into second place as they try to cut the gap between themselves and city rivals Atletico Madrid. These are our player ratings:

Starting XI:

Thibaut Courtois: 7/10

A very quite night for Thibaut. Getafe didn’t manage a single shot on target.

Marvin Park: 7/10

With so many injuries plaguing the team, Marvin got his first start for Real Madrid. The youngster didn’t let his manager down, putting in a good shift down the right flank as well as a few decent crosses. Was replaced by Arribas shortly after half-time.

Nacho: 7/10

Just like Courtois, Nacho had a relatively quite night in defence.  The Spaniard dealt with the very little that came his way.

Raphael Varane: 7/10

Varane continued where he left off against Huesca last time out putting in another fine shift. The Frenchman was calm and collected on the ball and was a threat from set pieces.

Ferland Mendy: 9/10

Superb performance from Mendy. The Frenchman formed a brilliant partnership with Marcelo down the left flank and the two eventually combined for Madrid’s second goal which was also Mendy’s second goal for Real Madrid.

Marcelo: 9/10

Marcelo’s best performance in a very long time. The Brazilian oozed class and creativity throughout his time on the pitch and was a key factor in the majority of Madrid’s attacks. Assisted Mendy for Madrid’s second goal of the night with a brilliant cross to cap off his excellent performance.

Casemiro: 7/10

Once again a rock in the middle of the park. Provided the team the cover needed in midfield and also looked to create chances for the forwards. Should have been awarded a penalty in the first-half for a shirt pull following a corner.

Luka Modric: 7/10

With most of Madrid’s attacking plays happening on the wings, Modric didn’t standout as much as he usually does. Despite that, he was one of the best performers on the night.

Marco Asensio: 7/10

A relatively quite performance from Marco. The Spaniard put in a few great passes in the final third but didn’t have much impact on the game. Replaced by Isco with fifteen minutes to go.

Karim Benzema: 8/10

A much improved performance from Karim over what we saw on the weekend. Always looking for the ball whether deep in midfield or out on the wings. The Frenchman looked sharp and his goal was evidence of that. Opened the scoring for Los Blancos with a brilliant header.

Vinicius: 8/10

Another good performance from Vinicius. The Brazilian was very direct with his runs and always looked to create danger when on the ball. Assisted Benzema for the opener with a superb cross.

Substitutions:

Arribas: 7/10 Came on to replace his Castilla teammate, Marvin. The young La Fabrica talent looked very sharp on the ball and was involved in the buildup for Madrid’s second goal.

Isco: 6/10 Came on to replace Asensio with fifteen minutes to go as Zidane looked to freshen things up late on.

Chust: 6/10 Came on to replace Marcelo very late on.
