Player Ratings: Real Madrid 1-2 Levante

Real Madrid’s terrible season continued on Saturday evening after the Whites suffered another defeat, this time at the hands of Levante who beat Los Blancos 2-1 at the Alfredo Di Stefano.

Real Madrid went down to 10-men after just nine minutes after Militao brought down Leon. Despite being a man down, Real Madrid still managed to take the lead with Marco Asensio scoring after a delightful pass from Toni Kroos. After a long period of sustained pressure, Jose Luis Morales equalised for Levante just before half-time.

Things didn’t get much better for Real Madrid in the second-half with Vinicius giving away a penalty shortly after coming on. Roger Marti stepped up to take the penalty but Courtois managed to pull off a great save to keep the score level.

Real Madrid eventually conceded a second goal, with Roger making amends for his earlier penalty miss. Real Madrid couldn’t find a way back into the game losing another three points in the race for the LaLiga title. These are our player ratings:

Starting XI:

Thibaut Courtois: 9/10

Real Madrid’s best player. Thibaut made countless saves including one from the penalty spot. Real Madrid have the Belgian to thank for keeping the score respectable.

Alvaro Odriozola: 5/10

With Carvajal, Vazquez and Nacho all missing, Odriozola started for the first time in LaLiga this season. His performance will have done him no favours, with the right-back partially at fault for both goals conceded.

Raphael Varane: 5/10

Led the defence in Ramos’ absence. The Frenchman was slow to cover for Militao which ended up costing the Brazilian. Average performance from Rapha.

Eder Militao: 2/10

Tasked with replacing the injured Ramos, Eder failed miserably. The Brazilian was sent off after just nine minutes which ended up costing Real Madrid the game. Horrible showing.

Ferland Mendy: 6/10

Almost committed a foul in the box in the first half and was a little sloppy with his passing. Put in a decent shift defensively.

Toni Kroos: 8/10

Real Madrid’s best player alongside Thibaut Courtois. Played a sensational pass to assist Asensio for Real Madrid’s only goal of the game. Unfortunate to be on the losing side.

Casemiro: 7/10

With Militao sent off and no centre-back on the bench, Casemiro played the majority of the game alongside Varane in defence. The Brazilian put in a decent shift despite playing out of position.

Luka Modric: 6/10

Luka Modric has been incredible this season but today he was far from his best. The Croatian had to play a lot deeper with Casemiro not in midfield. A difficult evening for Luka.

Marco Asensio: 7/10

Opened the scoring with a brilliant finish from Toni Kroos’ scintillating pass. Despite his good start to the game, his performance faded off as the game wore on. Was replaced by Arribas late on.

Karim Benzema: 5/10

Very disappointing performance for Benzema. The Frenchman had no impact on the game whatsoever and was replaced by Mariano.

Eden Hazard: 6/10

Started off the game brilliantly but couldn’t keep up that level throughout the game. Replaced by Vinicius on the hour mark.

Substitutions:

Vinicius: 5/10 Came on to replace Eden Hazard and barely made any positive impact on the game. In fact, he made life even more difficult for Real Madrid conceding a penalty minutes after coming on.

Mariano: 5/10 Came on to replace Benzema with minutes left.

Arribas: 5/10 Came on to replace Asensio late on.
