Player Ratings: Real Madrid 1-2 Alaves

Real Madrid lost to Alaves at home for the first time since 2000. It was Los Blancos’ third loss in LaLiga this season, the same number as the entirety of last season.

Lucas Perez opened the scoring with a penalty early on in the first-half after Nacho was deemed to have handled the ball in his six yard box. Joselu then doubled Alaves’ lead in the second-half after an absolute howler from Thibaut Courtois. Casemiro managed to score late on but it was too little too late for Real Madrid.  Real Madrid currently sit in fourth place, six points off Atletico Madrid who have a game in hand. These are our player ratings:

Starting XI:

Thibaut Courtois: 6/10

Made a couple of great saves which were overshadowed by an absolute howler of a mistake.

Lucas Vazquez: 6/10

A disappointing performance from Lucas. The Spaniard failed to replicate the form he showed against Inter in midweek.

Raphael Varane: 6/10

Not the worst of performances from Rafa. Dealt with what was asked of him but lacked that bit of leadership in Ramos’ absense.

Nacho: 6/10

Conceded a penalty very early on which made things difficult for Real Madrid. Not Nacho’s night.

Marcelo: 6/10

Started off slowly but grew into the game as time went on. Should have been awarded a penalty after being brought down in the oppositions penalty area.

Toni Kroos: 6/10

Had a big opportunity in the first-half but made the wrong decision by deciding to shoot instead of passing it to Mariano who was in acres of space. Was constantly moving forward to help in attack but couldn’t create anything of note.

Casemiro: 7/10

Arguably Real Madrid’s best player on the night. Scored the late goal but it was a mere consolation.

Luka Modric: 6/10

Started against Inter in midweek and then again tonight, the Croatian looked fatigued and lacked his usual energy in midfield.

Marco Asensio: 5/10

Poor display from Marco. The Spaniard was anonymous throughout and was eventually replaced by Vinicius on the hour mark.

Mariano Diaz: 6/10

Had a decent amount of chances but lacked the killer touch and in the end didn’t really threaten Pacheco in the Alaves goal.

Eden Hazard: 6/10

Was Real Madrid’s brightest player before eventually being brought off with what looks to be a muscle injury. Unlucky not to have been awarded a penalty.

Substitutions:

Vinicius Jr: 5/10 Came on to add some pace and directness to the attack. It was his shot that led to Casemiro’s goal late on.

Isco: 6/10 Added some much needed creativity to Real Madrid’s attack and was very unfortunate not to score with a beautiful strike late on.

Rodrygo: 5/10 – Came on to replace the injured Hazard but failed to add anything to the attack.

Odegaard: 5/10 Didn’t really get into the game after coming on for Luka Modric.

Ferland Mendy: 5/10 Came on to replace Marcelo with game already lost.
