– Everything Real Madrid
Real Madrid were held to a 1-1 draw by Girona at the Santiago Bernabéu on Sunday largely thanks to VAR drama.
After a goalless first half, Real Madrid opened the scoring through Vinicius Jr in the 70th minute. 10 minutes later, Cristhian Stuani equalised from the spot after being awarded a controversial penalty for handball against Asensio.

Starting XI:
Thibaut Courtois: 6/10
Made a number of good saves with the highlight being his fantastic save to deny Fernandez. Guessed the wrong way for Stuani’s penalty.
Dani Carvajal: 6/10
Got skinned in the first-half and was extremely lucky Girona failed to convert the resulting chance. The Spaniard didn’t seem to be 100% fit.
Antonio Rüdiger: 6.5/10
Rüdiger was decent in defence and was a threat from set pieces. Should’ve done better with a chance he got late on.
David Alaba: 6.5/10
Just like Rüdiger, Alaba was decent in defence. Real Madrid’s defensive issues this season stem from the way the team defends as a whole rather than specific individuals.
Ferland Mendy: 6.5/10
Fede Valverde: 7.5/10
Rodrygo Goes: 7/10
Vinicius Jr: 7.5/10
Substitutions:
Marco Asensio: 5/10 – Came on to replace Camavinga. The Spaniard had a great chance from a counterattack but failed to find the right pass in time. Wrongfully penalised by VAR for a non-existent handball.
Mariano Diaz: N/A – Came on to replace Valverde late on. The striker set up Rodrygo for the disallowed goal.
Eder Militao: N/A – Came on to replace Ferland Mendy late on.
