Player Ratings: Real Madrid 1-1 Atlético Madrid – 2023/24

Real Madrid squandered the opportunity to extend their lead to four points in the LaLiga standings when Marcos Llorente scored a last-minute equaliser in Sunday’s Madrid derby.

Brahim Diaz netted in the first half, and it appeared that Real Madrid would comfortably secure the win before Llorente delivered a powerful header in the 93rd minute to secure a share of the spoils.

Despite dropping two points, Real Madrid still widened their lead at the top of the table to two points. Next up for Los Blancos is second-placed Girona on Saturday.

Player ratings:

Starting XI:

Andriy Lunin: 7/10

Started ahead of Kepa once again. The Ukrainian made some smart saves to keep Atlético out in the first half.

Lucas Vazquez: 7/10

Followed up his solid performance last time out with another very good shift tonight. Vazquez was excellent down the right wing and caused Atlético a lot of problems.

Dani Carvajal: 6.5/10

Started at centre-back after Rüdiger’s injury. The Spaniard was solid but lacked any sort of aerial presence which isn’t really something he can be blamed for given his height.

Nacho Fernandez: 5/10

Nacho has had a terrible season and tonight summed it up. The captain was relatively solid throughout but was nowhere to be seen when Llorente headed home the equaliser completely unmarked in the six yard box.

Ferland Mendy: 7.5/10

Ferland Mendy put in one of his best performances in a while. The Frenchman was solid defensively and moved the ball forward extremely well.

Fede Valverde: 7/10

Fede impressed once again as he won the ball and broke lines with his pace. The Uruguayan carried the ball up the pitch with ease.

Eduardo Camavinga: 7/10

Camavinga was very good, especially in the first half. The Frenchman ran rings around Atlético’s midfielders and got involved at both ends of the field.

Toni Kroos: 8.5/10

A wonderful performance from the German who was flawless in the middle of the park. Kroos completed most of his passes 96/103 (93%) and set the tempo with an excellent shift both defensively and offensively.

Jude Bellingham: 7/10

Wasn’t involved all that much in attack but the Englishman’s work rate was second to none. Disgracefully not awarded a penalty for a clear obstruction in the 18 yard box.

Rodrygo Goes: 6/10

Other than the one chance he had around the hour mark, Rodrygo wasn’t all that involved throughout.

Brahim Diaz: 8/10

Real Madrid’s standout player throughout his 70 minutes on the pitch. Brahim scored the opener and was a constant threat in attack for Los Blancos.

Joselu: 6/10 – Came on to replace Brahim.

Luka Modric: 6/10 – Came on to replace Rodrygo.

Dani Ceballos: 6/10 – Came on to replace Bellingham.
