Player Ratings: Real Madrid 1-0 Mallorca – 2023/24

Real Madrid began 2024 with a 1-0 win against Mallorca at the Bernabéu on Wednesday thanks to Antonio Rüdiger’s second half header.

Real Madrid were frustrated by Mallorca’s low block but managed to find the goal they needed to secure the win and stay top.

Player ratings:

Starting XI:

Andriy Lunin: 6/10

Started ahead of Kepa once again. The Ukrainian had a quiet game but looked a little helpless when the ball struck his woodwork on two occasions.

Dani Carvajal: 7/10

Back in the starting line-up after missing a few games through injury. The Spaniard put in a solid shift and provided the width his team needed.

Antonio Rüdiger: 8/10

Scored the all-important winner with a brilliant header. The German was solid as ever at the back and is he having an excellent season.

Aurélien Tchouaméni: 7/10

With Nacho suspended and Militão and Alaba out for a considerable period of time, Tchouaméni had to partner Rüdiger in defence. The Frenchman was rarely tested and was excellent at playing the ball out of the back.

Fran Garcia: 6/10

Fran Garcia held onto the ball a bit too long at times and his deliveries weren’t exactly on point.

Fede Valverde: 7/10

Fede Valverde covered a lot of ground and his passing was excellent. The Uruguayan provides the legs needed in midfield when both Modric and Kroos start.

Toni Kroos: 7/10

Kroos was tidy in possession as he always is but lacked the decisiveness needed to unlock Mallorca’s low block. Brought off for Joselu as Ancelotti looked for more attacking options.

Luka Modric: 8/10

New year, same old Modric. The Croatian was at the heart of everything positive for Real Madrid and notched an assist for Rüdiger’s header. Top class.

Jude Bellingham: 6/10

Bellingham’s least effective performance in a Madrid shirt. The Englishman was marked out of the game and struggled to stamp his mark on proceedings.

Vinicius Junior: 6.5/10

Back in the starting XI after recovering from injury. The Brazilian was a little rusty in front of goal but put in a relatively decent shift

Rodrygo Goes: 6/10

The Brazilian linked up well with Vinicius at times but struggled to get going.

Substitutions:

Brahim Diaz: 6/10 – Came on to replace Vinicius. The Spaniard was lively but missed a glaring opportunity to give his side the lead.

Joselu: 6/10 – Came on to replace Toni Kroos. The Spaniard helped Madrid create more danger in attack.

Lucas Vazquez: N/A – Came on to replace Rodrygo late on.

Dani Ceballos: N/A – Came on to replace Luka Modric late on.
