Player Ratings: Real Madrid 0-0 Real Sociedad – 2022/23

Real Madrid drop two valuable points in the race for the LaLiga title after being held at home by third-placed Real Sociedad.

The home team were by far the better side having controlled possession and created the most chances but they failed to make that control count. Carlo Ancelotti’s side pressed for a late winner, but were unable to find one due to poor finishing and Alex Remiro’s brilliant goalkeeping.

Los Blancos are now five points behind league leaders Barcelona.

Player ratings:

Starting XI:

Thibaut Courtois: 7.5/10

Had a very quiet first half and the second half wasn’t much different apart from the last fifteen minutes. The Belgian made a number of excellent stops, preventing the visitors from snatching the win on the counter.

Nacho: 6/10

Lucky to escape a second yellow. Nacho had an okay game but his crosses were disappointing at best. Clearly not a right-back.

Eder Militao: 7.5/10

Very quiet game for Militao with the majority of play taking place in Sociedad’s half.

Antonio Rüdiger: 7/10

Just like Militao, Rüdiger was rarely troubled in defence. The German should have arguably had a penalty after a tug on his shirt in the 18 yard box.

Eduardo Camavinga: 7.5/10

With all of Real Madrid’s full-backs injured at the moment, Camavinga started at left-back. The Frenchman was excellent and provided Vinicius with a lot of support in attack without shying from his defensive duties.

Fede Valverde: 7.5/10

A much better performance from the Uruguayan who looked a lot more like his usual self. Still not at the level that he was at before the World Cup but a step in the right direction.

Toni Kroos: 8/10

A great performance from Toni who completed 97/106 passes, won five fouls and won a combined five tackles and interceptions. Back to his best after a slight dip in form over the last few games.

Dani Ceballos: 8/10

Another brilliant performance from the Spaniard who has forced his way into Real Madrid’s starting XI. Ceballos’ energy, hunger and technical quality have been a major boost to the team over the past few games.

Rodrygo Goes: 8/10

Started tonight’s game after his brilliant showing against Atletico in midweek. The Brazilian created chances from nothing, constantly winning the ball back in dangerous areas. Both Rodrygo and Vinicius caused Sociedad all sorts of problems, especially in the first half. Pity that the chances weren’t converted.

Karim Benzema: 6.5/10

Karim Benzema created plenty of chances for his teammates but never really got into any goalscoring positions. Los Blancos needed one of his poacher finishes tonight.

Vinicius Jr: 8/10

Vinicius Junior was unplayable in the first half, creating a boatload of chances and coming close to scoring multiple times. The Brazilian completed nine dribbles and looked incredibly sharp on the ball, but his influence on the game faded in the second half. Vinicius continues to struggle to put away chances, and Remiro’s top form made life even harder for the Brazilian.

Substitutions:

Luka Modric: 6/10 Came on to replace Valverde as Real Madrid looked to find a late winner. Came close with a great opportunity late on.

Marco Asensio: 6/10 Came on to replace Ceballos late on.
