Player Ratings: Real Madrid 0-0 Cádiz – 2021/22

Real Madrid’s 10-match winning streak ended with a disappointing 0-0 draw at home to Cadiz on Sunday.

Real Madrid came into this game with six coronavirus-enforced absences, with Marco Asensio, Gareth Bale, Andriy Lunin, Rodrygo, Luka Modric and Marcelo all missing out after testing positive earlier during the week.

Out of all the absentees, Luka Modric was the biggest miss as the home side struggled to break down Cadiz’s low block. Carlo Ancelotti’s men persisted until the end, but the lack of creativity at times as well as the final product ended up proving costly.

Real Madrid are now six points clear of second-placed Sevilla who have a game in hand, and 10 points ahead of third-placed Real Betis. Our player ratings:

Starting XI:

Thibaut Courtois: 7.5/10

A very quiet night for the Belgian with Cádiz not producing a single shot on target.

Lucas Vazquez: 6.5/10

In for the injured Carvajal. Vazquez started the game horribly, loosing possession far too easily and wasting many opportunities with his poor crossing. The Galician improved during the second-half.

Eder Militao: 8/10

Another excellent performance from the Brazilian. Militao was flawless in possession and dealt with Cádiz’s counter-attacks with ease.

David Alaba: 8/10

Just like Militao, Alaba had a very comfortable outing. Cádiz didn’t test the Austrian thus allowing him to play a lot higher up the pitch than usually is the case.

Ferland Mendy: 7/10

Played a lot higher than he usually does and often ended up taking shots on goal as the home side desperately looked to break the deadlock.

Fede Valverde: 7/10

Replaced Modric who missed the game through illness. The Uruguayan can’t be faulted for trying but he failed to replicate Modric’s incredibly high standards this season. Came close to scoring with a brilliant long range strike in the first-half.

Casemiro: 7.5/10

Picked up a yellow card that will rule him out of the game against Athletic Club on Wednesday. The Brazilian was rash with his challenges but kept things under control in the middle of the park.

Toni Kroos: 9/10

Toni Kroos did everything he could to help Real Madrid break the deadlock. The German’s long range passing was brilliant and he ended the game with nine key passes. Class performance.

Eden Hazard: 7.5/10

Started the game following the absence of Asensio, Rodrygo and Bale. The Belgian took some time to get going but improved as time went on. Eden had some nice touches on the ball and was involved in some intricate link-up play in and around the box. A promising performance.

Karim Benzema: 7/10

A rather frustrating night for the Frenchman. Karim was barely provided any chances and had to go deep to find the ball and create opportunities for himself.

Vinicius Jr: 7/10

An uneventful evening for the Brazilian. Vinicius was a constant threat throughout the game but was well marshalled by the Cádiz defence.

Substitutions:

Luka Jovic: 6/10 Came on to replace Valverde. The Serbian was involved in a number of good sequences of play and came close with a header that went wide.

Nacho: N/A Came on to replace Mendy late on.
