Player Ratings: Manchester City 4-0 Real Madrid (5-1 Agg.) – 2022/23
Real Madrid’s Champions League run came to a crashing end after suffering a damaging 4-0 defeat in the second leg of their semi-final on Wednesday.
Pep Guardiola’s side ran the show and made their superiority felt from start to finish and would’ve won this game with a much bigger margin had it not been for some heroic saves from Courtois.
Thibaut Courtois: 8/10
Conceded four goals but it could’ve easily been so much more. The Belgian denied Haaland three certain goals and pulled off some truly incredible saves. The only player to show up for Real Madrid.
Dani Carvajal: 3/10
Not the worst of performances from Carvajal but Madrid desperately need new blood in his position.
Eder Militao: 2/10
Started ahead of Rüdiger in a move that backfired. The Brazilian was far from his best and was simply not up to the task.
David Alaba: 3/10
Chased shadows all night and simply couldn’t cope with City’s incessant pressure.
Eduardo Camavinga: 2/10
Camavinga has been excellent at left-back this season but that was far from the case tonight. The Frenchman had a torrid time defending against Bernardo Silva and the majority of City’s danger came down his flank.
Fede Valverde: 2/10
Fede’s energy and pressing are two of his best qualities but neither of the two were on display tonight. The Uruguayan had absolutely no impact on the game.
Toni Kroos: 4/10
Not quite up to scratch. The German was Real Madrid’s best outfield player but still far below the level needed at this stage of the competition.
Luka Modric: 2/10
Rodrygo Goes: 3/10
Tried to get things going but barely ever saw the ball.
Karim Benzema: 2/10
Completely anonymous. Karim was nowhere to be seen over both legs which ultimately played a big part in the teams failure.
Vinicius Jr: 3/10
Saw very little of the ball and when he was found, Walker dealt with him pretty easily.
Antonio Rüdiger: 4/10 – Came on to replace Modrić on the hour mark.
Marco Asensio: 4/10 – Came on to replace Kroos.
Aurélien Tchouaméni: N/A – Came on to replace Camavinga late on.
Dani Ceballos: N/A – Came on to replace Rodrygo late on.
Lucas Vazquez: N/A – Came on to replace Carvajal late on.
