Player Ratings: Liverpool 0-0 Real Madrid

Real Madrid are through to the Champions League Semi-Finals after a tense 0-0 draw at Anfield (agg 1-3). Despite Liverpool having a number of very good opportunities, the Reds failed to replicate their comeback against Barcelona in 2019.

Real Madrid defended extremely well and used their vast experience in the competition to deal with the pressure and physicality of Klopp’s men.

The Whites will now face Chelsea in the Champions League semi-finals as they attempt to reach yet another European final. These are our player ratings:

Starting XI:

Thibaut Courtois: 9/10

Courtois has saved Madrid on plenty of occasions this season and tonight was no different. The Belgian made a number of fantastic saves, especially in the first half. Thibaut’s save to deny Salah after just 2 minutes into the game was pivotal to Real Madrid making it through.

Fede Valverde: 9/10

With both Carvajal & Vazquez missing through injury, it was down to Fede to keep Sadio Mane & Trent Alexander-Arnold at bay. The Uruguayan put in a fantastic shift and was key to Real Madrid’s solidity at the back.

Eder Militao: 10/10

Coming into this tie against Liverpool without Ramos & Varane, everyone expected the worst. It’s quite remarkable how well Militao has managed to make us forget that both of Madrid’s World Cup winning centre-backs were unavailable. The Brazilian won aerial duels, blocked everything that came his way and made sure Liverpool’s forwards had no impact on the game. Sensational performance.

Nacho: 10/10

Real Madrid are so lucky to have a ‘backup’ as good as Nacho. The Madrid youth product put in one of his best performances in a Real Madrid shirt and was pivotal in helping Los Blancos keep a clean sheet.

Ferland Mendy: 9/10

Solid performance from Mendy. The Frenchman had a few nervy moments at the start but grew into the game as time went on. He made a couple of great runs throughout the game that weren’t capitalised on and was as solid as ever at the back alongside Militao & Nacho.

Luka Modric: 8/10

Liverpool didn’t allow Modric much time on the ball and thus limited the Croatian from dominating proceedings. Despite that, Luka still managed to impact the game with his pressing and hard work off the ball.

Casemiro: 9/10

A tireless performance. Casemiro was always on hand to cut out any loose balls and break up play in dangerous areas. The Brazilian played the majority of the game with a booking following a rough challenge on Milner.

Toni Kroos: 7/10

Following his masterclass in the first leg, Jurgen Klopp made sure Toni would have little to no time on the ball this time around. The German found it incredibly difficult to have much influence on the game before eventually getting substituted around the 70 minute mark.

Marco Asensio: 7/10

Very quiet night for Asensio. The Spaniard barely made any impact on the game in attack due to the fact he had to provide Valverde with cover down the right flank.

Karim Benzema: 8/10

Karim was Real Madrid’s most threating player on a rather quite night for Los Blancos in attack. The French striker had to deal with scraps for the majority of the game. He had a couple of good opportunities, one which hit the post early on in the first half and one from a cross very late on.

Vinicius Jr: 7/10

Vinicius did not have anywhere near the amount of joy tonight compared to the first leg in Madrid. Liverpool marshalled him well and made sure he had very little impact on the game. Despite his ineffectiveness in attack, the Brazilian was on hand to help out Mendy in defence on a number of occassions.

Substitutions:

Odriozola: 6/10 Came on to replace Toni Kroos so Valverde could move back into midfield.

Rodrygo: 6/10 Came on to replace Vinicius as Zidane looked to add some fresh legs.

Isco: 6/10 Came on to replace Asensio late on.
