Player Ratings: Gladbach 2-2 Real Madrid

Real Madrid pulled off a late comeback to grab their first point in this seasons Champions League. Real Madrid were two goals down early in the second half thanks to two goals from Marcus Thuram. Karim Benzema pulled one back just before injury time before Casemiro found a late equaliser with just one minute of stoppage time left on the clock. These are our player ratings:
Starting XI:
Thibaut Courtois: 6/10
Couldn’t do much to prevent the goals. Made a great save with the team 2-0 down which made the comeback possible.
Lucas Vazquez: 5/10
Was consistently beaten by Thuram. Didn’t have the strength or power to keep the attacker at bay.
Raphael Varane: 6/10
Defended poorly for Gladbach’s first goal. Doesn’t look to be over his mistakes against Manchester City last season.
Sergio Ramos: 7/10
Looked shaky at the back at times but was crucial to the teams attack in the final 15 minutes. Won the header that enabled Casemiro to equalise in the final moments.
Ferland Mendy: 6/10
Was caught napping for Monchengladbach’s second goal. Didn’t hold his line properly which put Thuram onside. Decent performance up until that error.
Fede Valverde: 7/10
Another good performance from the Uruguayan. Started slowly but grew into the game as it went on.
Casemiro: 8/10
Involved in both of Real Madrid’s goals. won the header at the back post which allowed Benzema to score and then went on to score the equaliser in the dying moments. His best performance so far this season.
Toni Kroos: 7/10
Made a lax pass which eventually led to Monchengladbach’s opening goal. Wasn’t as effective as he usually is and was replaced by Modric.
Marco Asensio: 7/10
Started the game brilliantly and was Real Madrid’s best attacker in the first-half. Wasn’t as involved in the second-half and was eventually replaced by Rodrygo.
Karim Benzema: 8/10
Came into life in the second-half and kickstarted the comeback with a beautiful acrobatic finish.
Vinicius: 5/10
His worst performance so far this season. Looked way off pace and didn’t contribute anything to the attack. Was replaced late on by Hazard.
Substitutions:
Eden Hazard: 6/10 – Added some dimension to the attack and looked threatening on occasions. Unlucky not to score with a shot which hit the side netting.
Luka Modric: 7/10 – Came on and completely changed the game. The Croatian looks to be the most in-form Real Madrid player at the moment. Yet another brilliant performance.
Rodrygo: 5/10 – Came on with six minutes left. Didn’t have much time to affect the game.
Spot on, I’d say
