Player Ratings: Girona 4-2 Real Madrid – 2022/23

Real Madrid’s disastrous form in LaLiga continued on Tuesday as Girona inflicted a humiliating 4-2 defeat on the reigning champions.

This result sums up Real Madrid’s league season. Defensively all over the place, no cohesion whatsoever and a concerning lack of inconsistency.

Player ratings:

Starting XI:

Andriy Lunin: 2/10

Real Madrid might as well have played without a goalkeeper. The Ukrainian did absolutely nothing.

Dani Carvajal: 3/10

Two good performances from Carvajal and it’s back to shambles at the back. The Spaniard offered nothing going forward and was nowhere to be seen in defence.

Eder Militao: 1/10

Militao’s worst performance by a country mile. The Brazilian looked unbothered as Taty Castellanos scored four.

Antonio Rüdiger: 3/10

Just like the rest of Real Madrid’s defenders, Rüdiger looked completely lost. Both him and Militao looked like they’d never played a match together.

Nacho: 2/10

Started the game at left-back and had a nightmare of a game. Hooked off just seven minutes after the break.

Fede Valverde: 3/10

Offered no balance to Real Madrid’s midfield. The Uruguayan was completely outplayed in the middle of the park.

Toni Kroos: 4/10

Started as the anchor in Madrid’s midfield three. The German was far from his best and didn’t offer much at all out of possession.

Luka Modric: 4/10

Had a number of beautiful touches on the ball and tried to make things happen but it just didn’t work out for him. Came off with a knock.

Marco Asensio: 4.5/10

Assisted Vini’s opener with a wonderful cross off the right. That moment aside, the Spaniard was fairly anonymous.

Rodrygo Goes: 4/10

Started as the number nine in Benzema’s absence. The Brazilian was far from his best and had no impact on the game.

Vinicius Jr: 7.5/10

The only player than can leave this game with his head held high. The Brazilian was the one player that kept trying and ended the game with a goal and assist.

Substitutions:

Eduardo Camavinga: 6/10 Came on to replace Nacho. Didn’t have much of an impact on the game.

Aurélien Tchouaméni: 6/10 Came on to replace Modric on the hour mark. The team improved with the Frenchman’s introduction.

Lucas Vazquez: 7/10 Came on to replace Carvajal. The Galician scored a goal and put in solid shift.

Mariano Diaz: N/A Came on to replace Rodrygo late on.
