Player Ratings: Chelsea 0-2 Real Madrid (Agg. 0-4) – 2022/23

Real Madrid are through to another Champions League semi-final after earning a hard-fought 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday.

Real Madrid were far from their best but in the end a combination of Courtois’ brilliance and the ruthlessness of Rodrygo made the blues pay.

Los Blancos will now face either Manchester City or Bayern Munich in the Champions League semi-final.

Player ratings:

Starting XI:

Thibaut Courtois: 10/10

Simply the best. The Belgian made a number of world class saves to stop Chelsea from scoring. The save he made to deny Cucurella before the break was out of this world.

Dani Carvajal: 7/10

Not the most glamourous of performances but the Spaniard did what he had to to make things awkward for Cucurella. Solid performance.

Eder Militao: 8/10

Made a number of sensational blocks to deny Chelsea and his passing was world class yet again. Booked and suspended for the first leg of the semi-final in what is a major blow for Los Blancos.

David Alaba: 6.5/10

Started the game well and had a solid first half but was brought off at the break.

Eduardo Camavinga: 7.5/10

Another start at left-back. The Frenchman struggled to get going in the first half but improved drastically after the break. Camavinga was superb in the second half where he really showed his quality on and off the ball.

Fede Valverde: 8/10

Real Madrid’s best player in midfield by a long shot. The Uruguayan put in an excellent shift in the middle of the park, using his energy to close things down and get the team moving forward. Assisted Rodrygo’s second in what was a sensational team goal.

Toni Kroos: 6.5/10

Toni Kroos struggled due to Chelsea clogging up the middle of the park with three midfielders and two wing-backs. The German couldn’t get things moving like he usually does.

Luka Modric: 7/10

Just like Kroos, Modric didn’t start the game very well. The Croatian was outnumbered in the first 45 minutes but improved in the second half with the introduction of Tchouaméni and Ceballos.

Rodrygo Goes: 8.5/10

Real Madrid’s match winner. The Brazilian thrives in the Champions League and tonight was no different. Rodrygo scored both of Real Madrid’s goals and was by far the most threatening player out of the front three.

Karim Benzema: 6/10

Karim saw very little of the ball and didn’t seem to have recovered from the challenge by Thiago Silva.

Vinicius Jr: 7/10

Didn’t have much joy down the left compared to the first-leg. Despite being double or triple marked at times, Vinicius still managed to have an impact on the game with an assist for Rodrygo’s opener.

Substitutions:

Antonio Rüdiger: 7/10 Came on to replace Alaba at the break. The German didn’t put a foot wrong.

Aurélien Tchouaméni: 6.5/10 Came on to replace Karim Benzema.

Dani Ceballos: 6.5/10 Came on to replace Toni Kroos.

Marco Asensio: N/A Came on to replace Rodrygo late on.

Nacho: N/A Came on to replace Carvajal late on.
