Player Ratings: Braga 1-2 Real Madrid – 2023/24

Real Madrid made it three wins from their opening three Champions League group stage matches on Tuesday with a 2-1 away win against Braga.

Rodrygo gave Real Madrid the lead in the first half before Jude Bellingham secured all three points with a well-taken goal from the edge of the box.

Braga halved Madrid’s lead immediately after Bellingham scored but Ancelotti’s men managed to hold on and secure their third European win on the bounce.

Up next, El Clasico on Saturday.

Player ratings:

Starting XI:

Kepa Arrizabalaga: 7/10

Not much he could do to stop the goal. That aside, it was a pretty quiet night for the Spaniard.

Dani Carvajal: 7/10

Not as influential as he was against Sevilla over the weekend but the Spaniard put in a decent shift.

Antonio Rüdiger: 7/10

Another very solid display from the German who led by example. Rüdiger made a massive block in the first half to preserve his side’s lead.

Nacho Fernandez: 6.5/10

Started the game a little shakily but luckily wasn’t punished. Plenty of room for improvement.

Fran Garcia: 6.5/10

Earned a start after being benched for a number of games. The Spaniard showed an improvement in defence but could’ve done more for Djalo’s goal.

Fede Valverde: 7/10

A very quiet game from the Uruguayan who looked a little tired. Fede helped Carvajal with the defensive side of things and therefore wasn’t as involved in attack.

Luka Modric: 7.5/10

A very good performance from the Croatian who rolled-back the years to put in a top class display of playmaking. Modric always looked for forward passes and his creativity was crucial.

Eduardo Camavinga: 8/10

One of Camavinga’s best performances this season. The Frenchman put in an impressive shift in the middle of the park and was always in the right place at the right time to snuff out danger.

Jude Bellingham: 8/10

The difference maker for Real Madrid yet again. The Englishman scored the all-important winner as Real Madrid continued their perfect start in the Champions League this season.

Rodrygo Goes: 7.5/10

Rodrygo’s goal drought is finally over. The Brazilian took his goal well but wasn’t involved as much after scoring.

Vinicius Jr: 8/10

Despite being caught offside a few times, Vinicius was a nightmare for Braga’s defenders. The Brazilian set up both of Madrid’s goals and also had a goal of his own chalked off for offside. Excellent.

Substitutions

Aurélien Tchouaméni: 6.5/10 Came on to replace Rodrygo as Ancelotti looked to shore things up.

Ferland Mendy: 6.5/10 Came on to replace Fran Garcia.

Lucas Vazquez: N/A Came on to replace Bellingham late on.
