Player Ratings: Barcelona 1-3 Real Madrid
The first El Clasico of the season saw Real Madrid travel to the Camp Nou to face Barcelona. Real Madrid managed to secure all three points and open up a six point gap over their fierce rivals. Goals from Fede Valverde, Sergio Ramos and Luka Modric, saw Real Madrid triumph at the Camp Nou. These are our player ratings:
Thibaut Courtois: 7/10
Made a couple of fantastic saves in the first half to keep the scoreline level. Yet another great performance from the Belgian.
Was caught out of position for Barcelona’s goal. Solid defensively after his early error. Was subbed off before half-time with an injury.
Raphael Varane: 7/10
A much improved performance from the Frenchman compared to his last outing. Looked comfortable with Ramos back in the side.
Sergio Ramos: 10/10
An absolute masterclass from the captain. Didn’t put a foot wrong in defence and even contributed in attack, winning and converting the penalty that gave Real Madrid the lead. Man of the Match.
Ferland Mendy: 7/10
Back to playing on the left and consequently back to his usual self, solid at the back.
Fede Valverde: 8/10
Excellent performance from Fede. Dominated the midfield and consistently made runs going forward. Scored the opener early on latching on to a great pass from Benzema. Added some much needed spark and energy that was lacking over previous games.
Didn’t look his usual self. Sloppy on the ball often caught out of position.
Toni Kroos: 8/10
Oozed class throughout. So calm on the ball and didn’t panic when pressured. Controlled the game.
Marco Asensio: 6/10
Took a while to get going. Didn’t do much going forward but helped provide cover for Nacho and then Vazquez.
Karim Benzema: 7/10
Started the game with a great through-ball to assist Valverde and constantly provided creativity to the attack. Crucial to the attack.
Vinicius Jr: 6/10
Lacked his usual threat and drive. Constantly made the wrong decisions going forward. Put in a good shift to help provide cover for Mendy when needed.
Lucas Vazquez: 7/10 – Solid defensively and even managed to create chances going forward. Unlucky not to have an assist or two to his name.
Luka Modric: 7/10 – Came on and provided some fresh legs in midfield. Killed the game off with a beautiful goal to add some gloss to the scoreline.
Rodrygo: 5/10 – Didn’t have much time to really affect the game. A late substitute.
