Player Ratings: Atlético Madrid 1-2 Real Madrid – 2022/23

A clinical first-half display from Real Madrid against their city rivals Atlético Madrid sees Los Blancos maintain their 100 per cent record and move back to the top of the LaLiga table.

Rodrygo and Federico Valverde each scored brilliant goals in the first-half to provide Ancelotti’s men with a well deserved lead. The away sides performance levels dropped in the second-half with substitute Mario Hermoso pulling one back after some poor defending from a corner.

Hermoso was on the field for less than 20 minutes after he managed to get booked for a second time for a shove on Dani Ceballos at a corner. Ultimately the sending off killed Atleti’s momentum and Real Madrid were able to secure their ninth consecutive win in all competitions.

Player ratings:

Starting XI:

Thibaut Courtois: 7.5/10

Made a number of very good saves but arguably should’ve communicated better with his defenders for the set-piece from which the team conceded. Still looking for his first cleansheet in LaLiga.

Dani Carvajal: 8.5/10

A brilliant performance from the Spaniard who was very solid defensively and offered the team an outlet in attack. An all-round great performance.

Eder Militao: 7.5/10

Started tonight’s game after recovering from his injury. The Brazilian didn’t put a foot wrong but arguably should’ve communicated better with Courtois for the corner that resulted in Atleti’s goal.

David Alaba: 7.5/10

A pretty comfortable outing for the Austrian who was barely tested.

Ferland Mendy: 7.5/10

Solid performance from Mendy who got forward pretty well and defended as well as he always does.

Luka Modric: 7.5/10

Made a brilliant pass to Vinicius which put the Brazilian through on goal. His experience in the middle of the park was invaluable.

Aurélien Tchouaméni: 8/10

Assisted Rodrygo for the opener with a perfectly weighted ball over the top. A brilliant performance from the Frenchman who has settled into the team superbly. A very special player.

Toni Kroos: 7.5/10

Bossed the middle of the park and hardly misplaced any passes. The German has been in fine form recently and tonight’s game was no different.

Fede Valverde: 8.5/10

3 goals in his last 3 games. Fede Valverde has massively stepped up in terms of goals this season but his endless energy is still his most impressive trait. Another fantastic shift from the tireless Uruguayan.

Rodrygo Goes: 8/10

Scored the opener with a clean finish after latching on to Tchouaméni’s brilliant ball over the top. Rodrygo has stepped up big time this season and is looking in very good shape.

Vinicius Jr: 8/10

Unlucky not to score after a brilliant run resulted in him hitting the post with Valverde scoring from the rebound. Caused Atlético all sorts of problems and didn’t let any of the home sides disgraceful antics get to him.

Substitutions:

Antonio Rüdiger: 7/10 Came on to replace Mendy as Ancelotti looked to lock things up at the back.

Eduardo Camavinga: N/A Came on to replace Modric late on. His energy helped in winning fouls.

Dani Ceballos: N/A Came on to replace Rodrygo late on. The Spaniard got pushed during a corner which ended up in Hermoso getting sent off for a second yellow.

Marco Asensio: N/A Came on to replace Toni Kroos late on.
