Player Ratings: Athletic Club 0-2 Real Madrid – 2023/24
Real Madrid got off their LaLiga season off to a perfect start with a comfortable 2-0 win away to Athletic Club on Saturday night.
Goals from Rodrygo and debutant Jude Bellingham were enough to see off Valverde’s men who barely threatened throughout.
Andriy Lunin: 7/10
Started for the first time this season following Courtois’ season-ending injury. The Ukrainian didn’t have much to do but the clean sheet will do his confidence the world of good.
Dani Carvajal: 8/10
Excellent shift from the Captain. The Spaniard led by example and was key to Madrid’s opener, registering an assist after some great play down the right. Carvajal made good forward runs and was unthreatened in defense.
Eder Militão: 7/10
Militão put in a very good display but was forced off with what looked like a bad injury. Ancelotti confirmed after the game that it looks worrying.
David Alaba: 8.5/10
A brilliant performance from Alaba who was excellent at progressing the ball and was a threat from set pieces with his top-notch ball deliveries.
Fran Garcia: 6/10
Started the game really poorly with some questionable ball control. Fran looked nervous at the start but grew into the game, especially after the break.
Fede Valverde: 7/10
Valverde linked up well with Rodrygo down the right and found it really easy to force his way forward.
Aurélien Tchouaméni: 7.5/10
Started tonight’s game, earning his position in the team after a brilliant pre-season. The Frenchman made a brilliant sliding tackle to deny Athletic in the second-half and dominated the midfield throughout.
Eduardo Camavinga: 7.5/10
A very good performance from the young Frenchman who won 9 duels, made 1 clearance, 4 tackles and had a 89% pass accuracy. Camavinga’s athleticism was on full display.
Jude Bellingham: 9/10
A spectacular debut from the Englishman who looked like he’s been playing for Real Madrid for years. Jude scored Madrid’s second goal a few minutes before half-time and was constantly involved throughout. Brilliant.
Rodrygo Goes: 7.5/10
Scored the opener for Real Madrid with a clinical finish after latching on a loose ball in the area. Solid showing from the Brazilian.
Vinicius Jr: 7/10
Not quite there yet in terms of match fitness. The Brazilian was good on the ball but lacked that killer touch when it mattered.
Antonio Rüdiger: 6.5/10 – Came on to replace the injured Militão. The German put in a solid shift.
Toni Kroos: 6.5/10 – Came on to replace Camavinga.
Luka Modric: N/A – Came on to replace Vinícius with ten minutes remaining.
Joselu: N/A – Came on to replace Rodrygo late on.
