Player Ratings: Athletic Club 0-2 Real Madrid – 2022/23
Real Madrid beat Athletic Club 2-0 at San Mames, securing a very important three points in the race for the title.
An exquisite volley from Karim Benzema, who drew level with Raúl as the club’s second top scorer in the league, and a trademark shot from Toni Kroos see Real Madrid move within three points of league leaders Barcelona.
Thibaut Courtois: 7.5/10
Made a number of great saves earning himself a well deserved clean sheet. Another top display.
Brilliant performance from the Spaniard who was rock solid in defence and also made good runs going forward. Impressive display from Real Madrid’s swiss knife.
Eder Militao: 7.5/10
One Real Madrid’s most in-form players at the moment. The Brazilian rarely put a foot wrong and was key to his team keeping a clean sheet.
Antonio Rüdiger: 7.5/10
A much improved performance from the German who’s form has been a hot topic with the fans. Rüdiger was solid in defence and showed great speed and strength to thwart Iñaki Williams on more than one occasion.
Ferland Mendy: 6.5/10
Put in a decent shift up until the 70th minute before things started to get rather difficult for him. The Frenchman was extremely lucky that Nico Williams couldn’t finish a guilt edged chance after the Spaniard ghosted behind Mendy who was meant to be marking him.
Fede Valverde: 7/10
Not one of the standout performers tonight but the Uruguayan put in a respectable shift alongside Camavinga and Ceballos. A step in the right direction.
Eduardo Camavinga: 9/10
A fantastic performance from the young Frenchman who won 8 duels, made 5 clearances, 2 tackles and had a 90% pass accuracy. Ancelotti praised Camavinga after the game saying: “I want to highlight Camavinga’s performance. He was outstanding tonight.”
Dani Ceballos: 8/10
Started tonight’s game, earning his position in the team after his brilliant performance against Villarreal in midweek. The Spaniard continued his great form with another impressive display, with the team greatly benefitting from his energy and technical skill on the ball.
Marco Asensio: 6.5/10
One of the better performers in the first half but his level dropped off as time went on. Missed a great opportunity in the second half after some brilliant interplay between Benzema and Valverde.
Karim Benzema: 7.5/10
Opened the scoring with a sensational volley in the first half. The Frenchman wasn’t presented with many goalscoring opportunities but he always looked to make things happen on and off the ball.
Vinicius Jr: 7/10
One of Vinicius’ quieter games. The Brazilian didn’t see much of the ball but he put in a tremendous amount of work defensively to help out Mendy down the left flank.
Luka Modric: 6/10 – Came on to replace Asensio with fifteen minutes remaining.
Toni Kroos: 7.5/10 – Came on to replace Ceballos. The German scored his team’s second goal with a trademark snooker finish from outside the box.
Rodrygo Goes: 7/10 – Came on to replace Vinicius. The Brazilian assisted Kroos for Madrid’s second goal.
