Player Ratings: Alaves 0-1 Real Madrid – 2023/24
Real Madrid win their last game of 2023 thanks to a late header from Vazquez which moves them top of the LaLiga table, ahead of Girona on goal difference.
It looked like Real Madrid would be dropping a crucial two points in the title race but that was until an injury-time corner where Alaves left Lucas Vazquez unmarked and the defender headed into the back of the net.
Given a start ahead of Lunin. The Spaniard had barely anything to do throughout the ninety minutes.
Lucas Vazquez: 8/10
Vazquez had a relatively quiet game but scored the all-important winner with a brilliant header from a Kroos corner. A massive goal in the title race.
Antonio Rüdiger: 7/10
Another commanding performance from the German. Rüdiger was really solid defensively yet again.
Nacho Fernandez: 4/10
Replaced David Alaba who picked up an ACL injury over the weekend. The Spaniard was sent off at the start of the second half after a horrible challenge on Samu.
Fran Garcia: 6/10
A rather mediocre performance from the Spaniard. Fran continues to struggle with his decision making and looks well off the level of Ferland Mendy.
Fede Valverde: 7/10
With Nacho sent off, Fede had to play a lot deeper than usual. The Uruguayan was the closest to scoring in the first half.
Toni Kroos: 7.5/10
Just like most Madrid players, Kroos struggled to really get going in the first half. The German’s set-pieces were poor up until he picked out Vazquez for the winner.
Luka Modric: 6/10
Luka Modric struggled to make an impact in the first half and was replaced soon after the break when Nacho was sent off.
Jude Bellingham: 7/10
A mixed performance from the Englishman. Jude was very good on the ball but often ran the risk of getting a second yellow.
Rodrygo Goes: 6.5/10
Rodrygo tried to get things going in attack and came close to scoring in the second half but struggled to make much of an impact throughout. Hobbled off in stoppage time.
Brahim Diaz: 7.5/10
Real Madrid’s most active player in attack. The Spaniard was a constant threat and always looked to make things happen.
Aurélien Tchouaméni: 6.5/10 – Came on to replace Luka Modric. The Frenchman played at centre-back in place of Nacho who was sent off.
Joselu: N/A – Came on to replace Brahim Diaz late on.
Dani Ceballos: N/A – Came on to replace Rodrygo late on.
