Champions League draw: Real Madrid’s possible opponents

After beating Borussia Mönchengladbach on Wednesday, Real Madrid ended the Champions League group stage as group winners. Winning the group was extremely important because it means Real Madrid will now avoid facing Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool, Manchester City, Juventus, Chelsea or Bayern Munich in the round of 16.

So who will Real Madrid face? Group winners will be drawn against group runners-up. Teams from the same national association cannot face each other, nor can teams who played each other in the group stage of this season’s competition. This means that Los Blancos can be drawn against four possible opponents. Leipzig, Atalanta, Lazio and Porto are the four teams that could end up facing the Spanish Champions in the round of 16.

The draw for the round of 16 of the 2020-21 UEFA Champions League will be made at 11 a.m. GMT / 6 a.m. ET on Monday, December 14 at UEFA’s headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland and will be streamed live on UEFA.com.

The matches will be scheduled for February 16/17/23/24 (first legs) and March 9/10/16/17 (second legs). All games will be kicking off at 9pm Spanish time (CET). Since Real Madrid won their group, they will play the first leg away from home.

The Champions League Final is set to be held at Istanbul’s Ataturk Olympic Stadium, which was originally picked to host the 2019-20 final before coronavirus forced UEFA to alter the conclusion of the competition.
